Seeing The Bright Side of Endless Work

The Red Queen Hypothesis from evolutionary biology states:

“that species must constantly adapt, evolve, and proliferate in order to survive while pitted against ever-evolving opposing species.

The Red Queen Hypothesis is thus named from Lewis Carrol’s Through the Looking Glass, in which the Red Queen tells Alice:

“Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.”

Jiu Jitsu has given me the privilege of working with special forces officers, as well as specialized law enforcement who are trained by these men. The latter have informed me that these ex-military live by a maxim:

Selection is a never-ending event.

This message evokes inspiration and doom, wrapped tightly in a braid. The good news is everything matters. The bad news is everything matters.

The challenge of a lifetime is to honor this dictum.

In our health.
In our business.
In our marriage.
In our relationships.
In our passions.
And in all the other areas of your unique life.

May we live in a way that selects for the future we want, and where we are not, may we gain the perspective to adjust our course.

Wishing you a good week of Selection,
Chris Matakas
